The God Who Hears

At Kineo, we have always (for the most part) had a weekly corporate prayer gathering. Once we began Community Groups (about a year into our church plant), sadly our regular corporate prayer gatherings came to an end until Selina Alonzo (a faithful member of Kineo and Jesus follower) at a leader meeting said that she was being called to continue these nights.

It started with a plan to meet once a month again, then after one meeting, she planned another meeting for next week and then the week after. Long story short, she began a prayer ministry not just of gatherers who come and pray for the church, the broken and lost, the nation and world, but she started a network of people who are loving on other people all over the world to let their friends, family, and neighbors know that they can email, text, or Facebook in their prayer requests any day or hour of the week, and a nation wide prayer movement began from a small little corner in Alhambra Village.

There have been so many answered prayers in so many different ways and God has been made much of. This email I’m going to share with you is just one (of many!) testimonies of God’s faithfulness and power to speak to His people when they speak to Him. God answers prayers (in whatever way He sees fit), but most importantly, He turns cold hard and lost hearts to Himself and brings redemption through Jesus. I pray this is an encouragement to pray more faithfully not just for answered prayer sake, but for the sake of seeing God’s glory and Him transforming your life and others! Here is the email that Selina sent to all of us on the prayer email last week (a few details were changed so that names were not revealed):

Good Wednesday Praying Family,

I wanted to share with you some reports I have gotten recently from people that we have prayed for. There are three women who have asked for prayer from a place of desperation and brokenness in their marriages. One had a husband who walked out on her the night before Christmas, another woman’s husband left her after he admitted to an affair, and the other chose to end her physically abusive marriage for her safety and the safety of her young kids.

We started praying for them almost a year ago when we re-started meeting on Wednesday nights. God has been faithful to these women as all three have chosen to lean on Him in prayer.  All three of them have found churches in the cities they live in and are growing in their relationship with the Lord. One of them returned to church after a 10 year hiatus and one has made a decision for the Lord for the first time!! Thank you JESUS.

It has been a hard road for all of them, but in the last couple of weeks all three have them have contacted me separately to ask that I say thank you on their behalf to the people at Kineo Church who have often prayed for them and their children.

In my correspondences with them the past few days I have tried to connect the three of them together via email, so they could be supportive of each other and we have prayed Psalm 6:1-9 together… Please continue to pray for these women, that they will find Godly women in their churches that will stand with them, for their children to see the reflection of our Great Redeemer in their mother’s faces, and for the men who have abandoned and hurt them, that they would have a Jesus encounter that stops them dead in their tracks and causes them to repent and be changed.

Psalm 6: 1-9

6:1 O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
3 My soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord—how long?
4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of you;
in Sheol who will give you praise?
6 I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil,
for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my plea;
the Lord accepts my prayer.

So… Thank you for your faithfulness to Jesus and to prayer. People are being changed by God’s amazing grace and we are blessed to be His witnesses. Much Love, Selina
